Education has always been at the heart of our work. We have supported children not only with the materials they need, but also with safer schools, access to books and technology, academic guidance, opportunities to develop their talents and recognition that encourages them to dream beyond their circumstances.
Back to School — An Annual Commitment
Our annual Back to School project provides essential educational supplies, including exercise books, stationery, uniforms, school bags and shoes. Thousands of children from underprivileged families have benefited over the years, helping them begin the school year prepared, included and confident.
School Shoes and Essential Support
For many low-income families, even the cost of a pair of school shoes can become a barrier. By providing footwear and other basic school needs, we help children attend safely and with dignity, without feeling excluded because of poverty.
Academic Seminars and Student Guidance
Qualified lecturers and educators have conducted seminars for schoolchildren on academic subjects, examination preparation, study skills, motivation and personal development. These programs bring specialised support to students who may have limited access to private tuition or additional guidance.
Career Guidance for School Leavers
University lecturers, vocational education professionals and training specialists have guided school leavers on higher education, technical training, vocational pathways and employment possibilities. These sessions help young people make informed choices at a critical stage of their lives.
Inter-School Knowledge Competitions
We introduced inter-school quiz and knowledge competitions to encourage curiosity, teamwork and healthy academic competition. More than 25 schools participated enthusiastically in a major competition in the Ampara District, demonstrating the strong appetite for learning among rural students.
Reading Competitions and Literacy Promotion
Reading competitions, reading-and-sharing activities and literacy initiatives have encouraged children to discover the pleasure and value of books. By recognising reading as an achievement, we help strengthen language, comprehension, imagination and confidence.
Books and Resources for School Libraries
We have donated books and educational resources to rural school and community libraries, expanding access for children who cannot afford their own materials. This has included reference books and ten years of G.C.E. Advanced Level past papers covering more than 25 subjects across different streams.
Rural School Infrastructure
Our support has extended to the physical conditions in which children learn. Projects have included school gateways, toilets, flooring, water facilities and other essential improvements that make rural schools safer, more functional and more welcoming.
Clean Water and Sanitation
We have supported schools and underprivileged families with school-going children by improving access to clean water and sanitation. Safe facilities protect health, privacy, dignity and regular school attendance.
Environmental Awareness and Green Schools
Environmental awareness programs have taught students about protecting nature and caring for their surroundings. Plant distributions to schools have helped turn learning into practical responsibility and encouraged children to become young guardians of their environment.
Oratory and Essay Competitions
Oratory and essay competitions have given students a platform to express ideas, strengthen communication and develop confidence. These initiatives recognise that education is also about voice, creativity, critical thinking and leadership.
Recognition and Annual Awards
Our annual award ceremonies celebrate students who demonstrate academic excellence, resilience, leadership, creativity and achievement beyond the classroom. Recognition encourages young people and reminds communities that ability can emerge from every background when it is given a chance.
